Colocation FAQ

What is Colocation?

Colocation is when individuals or organizations place their own computing hardware (e.g. servers, networking switches) in space rented in a physical data center owned and/or operated by a third party.

How do you meter power on my server for Single Server Colocation?

We measure your power usage before your server is racked in our colocation space and confirm the peak usage on boot is covered by the power allocation you have purchased. If your server draws more power than you purchased, we will reach out to you about upgrading before we rack your machine.

Do you offer redundant power and network?

Redundant power and network options are available. Reach out to our sales team to discuss availability and pricing.

Can I access my single-server colocation on the data center floor?

No, single-server colocation customers are not permitted on the data center floor. If you need to perform maintenance on your system, our Remote Hands service can retrieve your server and bring it to the setup room for you to work on. Please note that Remote Hands fees apply.

How much does Remote Hands service cost for tasks like drive replacements?

Remote Hands is billed in 15-minute increments. For the latest pricing, please contact our Sales team.

Is Remote KVM available, or is IPMI required?

For single-server colocation, IPMI is required. However, full-rack colocation customers are not subject to this requirement. Remote KVM is available and billed hourly, please check with Sales for current rates.

What happens if I exceed my 30TB bandwidth plan?

For single-server colocation, you will receive a warning before reaching your bandwidth limit, giving you the opportunity to upgrade. If you exceed the limit without upgrading, your switch port will be suspended. For full-rack colocation, overages are automatically billed.

Does your DDoS protection use Corero? Does it protect against internal attacks?

Yes, we use on-premise Corero DDoS protection alongside internal monitoring systems. While we have not encountered instances of customers attacking each other within our network, any such activity would result in the termination of the offending accounts.

Is IPv6 available, and does it include DDoS protection?

Yes, IPv6 is available. Our standard DDoS protection also applies to IPv6 traffic.

If I colocate multiple servers but don’t have a full rack, can they be connected via a private VLAN?

Yes, we can configure your servers within a private VLAN upon request.

Single Server Colo

What happens if my server doesn't have IPMI?

Servers without IPMI will incur a slightly higher monthly fee for remote access support. If you ever need direct access, KVMs are available for rent.
Note: IPMI access is handled through our private proxy network and integrated into the control portal for supported devices.

Can I colocate multiple servers without a full rack?

Yes, you may purchase multiple single server colocation plans. Each server must meet rackmount standards and be shipped/prepared per our colocation preparation guide.

How much power do I need for my single server?

You need sufficient power for your workload, including any peak usage. We'll test your server's peak power draw at boot during installation and monitor ongoing usage through your assigned outlet.
If we find that your selected plan doesn't include sufficient power for your actual needs, we'll upgrade your power allocation accordingly.
You can view power pricing and options on our order form.

Full Rack Colo

Can I install devices without IPMI in a full rack?

Absolutely. Full rack customers may install any supported equipment, with or without IPMI. You're free to bring your own KVM or rent one from us if needed.

Are there any additional charges for BGP or custom networking?

BGP sessions and IP announcements are available at no additional cost for full rack customers. Custom networking options, VLANs, or cross-connects may also be available. Contact us for pricing and availability.

How does power work in a full rack?

Power is quoted and provisioned based on your specific requirements. Each power circuit is 80% usable. Let us know your expected draw, and we'll help size and configure your rack deployment appropriately.
